The reason for this the cartridge type filters are cheaper & more effective oil filter that can be integrated in a permanent housing on the engine.  Many times a special tool is needed to remove the oil filter. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN NOT DO A DIY OIL FILTER & OIL CHANGE YOURSELF.
